Infrastructure

General infrastructure: Telephone, telefax, internet, housing for visiting scientists, general mess and service building, library, logistic support.

Easiest access to FMI/ARC for visitors is provided by air transportation or by train from Helsinki (capital city of Finland) to Rovaniemi. Flight timetables and ticket information are available from Finnair (http://www.finnair.com/) and VR (http://www.vr.fi/e-index.htm). From Rovaniemi there is about 2 -hour bus ride to Sodankylä. Bus route is operated regularly (see timetables at http://www.matkahuolto.com/). Transportation to the observatory can be organized by the observatory staff or by taxi.
Research infrastructure: Meteorological observatory, balloon launch facility, 48m weather mast, Calibration laboratory for UV instruments. (See tables 1a & 1b)
